Compose Autonomy!- An Adaptable User Interface for Assistive Technology Systems

چکیده
The paper introduces „AUTONOMY“, an assistive system developed by the authors. The goal of this system is to contribute to the autonomy of motorand multiple impaired persons in daily life and to empower them to live a more selfdetermined and independent life at home (and not in an institution). AUTONOMY is a multifunctional modular system designed for the home environment. It consists of a mobile user-terminal connected to an individual set of peripheral modules via a bus system. The peripheral modules perform the interaction between the system and the environment of the user. The paper gives a short overview of the whole system and concentrates on the user-interface. As the system should be usable for a wide range of motorand multiple impaired persons it is evident that there are very strong demands on the user-interface.

The effect of robotic wheelchair control paradigm and interface on user performance, effort and preference: An experimental assessment
The exact manner in which control is shared between a human and an autonomous system is a crucial factor for assistive robots that provide physical support to people with severe motor impairments. There has however been little comparative study between different control-sharing paradigms within the field of assistive robotics. We present a control architecture for a robotic “smart” wheelchair t...

Introduction: The e-prescribing system is one of the basic technologies in the health system structure which was developed with the aim of properly managing healthcare resources and services, preventing common manual prescribing errors, and increasing patient safety. Given that the user interface of e-prescribing system is considered as the main factor of user acceptance, the purpose of the pre...
متن کاملReflections on a Versatile User Interface Framework for Older Persons Optimised for an Assistive Robot Providing Support in Daily Life
A versatile multimodal user interface (UI) framework was developed for persons with disability and for older persons to increase autonomy and quality of life. This UI framework covers use cases from single switch use in scanning mode, simplified telephone for older persons based on touchscreen terminal, integration of social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter) and assistive robots. The evaluation ac...

متن کاملMAPS: Dynamic Scaffolding for Independence for Persons with Cognitive Impairments
Individuals with cognitive disabilities are often unable to live independently due to inability to perform daily tasks. Computationally enhanced dynamic prompting systems can mitigate this. High levels of assistive technology abandonment are driven by poor user interfaces. MAPS provides an effective prompting system with an intuitive interface for
